Diaz got his first television journalism job at WPLG-TV in Miami where he reported for the station in the early to mid-70s. He then left the station and got a job at WCBS-TV from the mid-70s to early 90s. It was at WCBS-TV that Diaz got recognized by many and he won over 25 local Emmy Awards during his time there. Diaz got recognized due to his reports on the Shame on You series.

Diaz then got a job at ABC News as a reporter for ABC’s 20/20 as a Consumer Investigative Reporter from the year 1995 to 2003. He won the National Press Club Consumer Journalism Award and the Consumer Federation of America Media Service Award. Diaz then joined WNYW-TV later and the show Shame on You was revived by the station to Shame Shame Shame. In 2014, he announced that he was leaving the station indefinitely In the same year, he got a job at WPIX as a reporter for ‘PIX11 Investigates’ together with reporters, Mary Murphy and chief investigator Howard Thompson.
