On Monday, the New York Islanders fired coach Barry Trotz. In fact, he is the third coach to be dismissed since the regular season concluded, following the Detroit Red Wings’ Jeff Blashill and the Philadelphia Flyers’ Mike Yeo (May 3).

The Islanders missed the playoffs for the first time in four seasons under Trotz and general manager Lou Lamoriello. Trotz was 152-102-34 with the Islanders, including 28-21 in the playoffs, but Lamoriello decided the team needed a fresh voice.
