Along with Desperate Housewives, Chavira has showcased his acting skills in a variety of theater productions. He appeared in Tracers at the Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles and had a prominent role in the co-production of Living Out.
In addition, he performed the role of Stanley Kowalski in the Guthrie Theater’s production of A Streetcar Named Desire in Minneapolis from July to August 2010.
Chavira has dabbled in voice acting, lending his voice as Alejandro Borges in the film Dead Space: Aftermath and John Carver in the video game Dead Space 3. He has appeared in movies including Saving God (2008), Days of Wrath (2008), and Piranha 3D (2010).
When he won the Audiobook of the Year and Multi-Voiced Performance Audie Awards in 2010, his work on the audiobook adaptation of Nelson Mandela’s favorite African folktales was recognized.
Chavira portrayed Rafael Serrano, the crime boss, in two episodes of the USA Network drama Burn Notice in 2013 after Desperate Housewives.
Later the same year, he starred in the NBC sitcom Welcome to the Family, but the series was regrettably canceled after only three episodes. In 2015, Chavira had a guest appearance in the “At Close Range” episode of Castle. Chavira reconnected with her in 2016’s short-lived sitcom Telenovela starring Eva Longoria.
