Kimberly or Kim Potter, around 45 to 50 years, a 26-year veteran officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright, ‘mistaking’ her gun for a taser. She was charged with second-degree manslaughter on Wednesday. Ironically, her husband’s resume includes “weapons handling” as one of his abilities.
Activists demonstrated outside the house of Washington County Attorney Pete Orput, whose office filed a second-degree manslaughter case against Potter in April, just weeks after Wright’s death.
Potter will continue to face the original accusation as well as the new one issued on Thursday.
Potter’s trial is set to begin on Nov. 30.

After posting a $100,000 bail, Kim Potter was freed from the Hennepin County Jail. Potter, 48, of Champlin, was charged with second-degree manslaughter in the death of Daunte Wright, 20, on Wednesday.
According to prison records, Potter was detained and put into jail at 12:07 p.m. on Wednesday, and she was released hours later, at 5:38 p.m.
The date for Potter’s next court appearance is April 15.
Potter faces up to ten years in jail and a $20,000 fine if convicted.
Wright’s parents said they ‘can’t accept’ that their son was killed ‘accidentally’.
A broad coalition of civil rights and racial justice groups has demanded responsibility from state and municipal officials, and Wright’s death has been described as yet another tragic example of racially biased police.
The incident occurred not far from downtown Minneapolis, where Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, is on trial for the killing of George Floyd.
