Ralph Yarl is a 16-year-old African American teenager, who was shot and critically injured on April 13, 2023, after ringing the wrong doorbell in Kansas City, Missouri.
Ralph Yarl is a student at Staley High School. Yarl is an academically gifted student who enjoys music. He intends to pursue a degree in chemical engineering at Texas A&M University.
Yarl was sent to pick up his siblings from an address in the 1100 block of NE 115th Terrace in the evening hours of April 13. He went to a house on NE 115th Street and rang the doorbell by mistake.
According to investigators, the suspect shot Yarl twice through the front glass door. A little before 10 p.m., the Kansas City Police Department responded to reports of a shooting near the house.
Yarl was discovered injured in the street by neighbours, who called the police, who discovered him with at least two gunshot wounds to his head and arm.
Following the shooting, members of the community and family members marched to and demonstrated in front of the suspected shooter’s home, calling for official charges to be filed.
A family member started a GoFundMe page for Yarl, which had raised more than $2 million by April 17 2023. Ralph is recovering at home after he was discharged from the hospital.
